Hydronic Heating

This type of heating typically involves a number of copper pipes placed in different layouts which are used to send heated water to various types of radiators.

Cast iron radiators	Usually found in older homes, these types of radiators are heavy and hold a large amount of water or steam. Cast iron radiators were the main type of radiation found in a large number of older homes, and continue to be installed in some new homes today. Buderus-panel radiators
Towel warmers	Heated water is pumped through a series of prefabricated tube assemblies (usually polished brass, nickel, chrome, etc.) and used to pre-warm towels that are placed upon it. Buderus-towel warmers

Radiant Heating

Radiant floor heating heats your body and objects in the room, not the air. The warmth stays down around the floor where it is needed the most.

In slab	One of the most popular ways to install radiant heat, this method involves embedding a series of tubes into a concrete slab. Wirsbo
Thin slab	In a thin slab installation, tubing is stapled to the subfloor surface, and a lightweight gypsum-based cement is poured on top. The floor can be finished with carpet, hardwood, tile, or just about any floor covering. Wirsbo
Staple up	Staple up is another method of installation, ideal for crawlspaces or retrofitting. The tubing is affixed to the ceiling between the floor joists, and insulated to help spread the heat evenly on the floor above. Wirsbo
Quik trak	This type of radiant heat system utilizes prefabricated panels, which are set on top of an existing unheated floor. Radiant tubing is then placed inside grooves in the panels to provide heat. Wirsbo
Approved snowmelt	Radiant tubing with glycol solution is a proven strategy for making outside surfaces dry and safe even in extreme climates. In Wisconsin, these types of systems are limited to approved commercial projects only. Wirsbo
